Spread the word and get out the vote!
As we enter the last weekend of the 2008 campaign, I will be traveling the district, going door to door, and encouraging voters to get to the polls. The stakes have never been higher and our voices need to be heard.
On Monday, I will be taking part in an Obama rally at noon on Ho Plaza, on the Cornell University campus. Brian Hunt and his team have put together an amazing force of voters who are supporting Obama for president and other candidates who are on the right side of the issues in these tough economic times. I will be there encouraging a strong turnout in the 53rd District race.
This weekend, I will be going door-to-door in Corning, Bath, and elsewhere in order to make my final plea to voters of all stripes and political persuasions. This is not a year for partisanship, but a year for solutions. As Mayor of Elmira, I've never used partisanship to move the city forward. I've used transparency, respect, and shared vision. That's what people tell me we need in Albany to make New York great again. I couldn't agree more.
The choices at the national, state and local levels this year are clear: More of the same or a new direction. Career politicians like George Winner (who has spent 30 years in Albany) have created huge state deficits, left millions of men, women, and children without health care and the support they need to build a bright future. Career politicians serve special interests, not our interests. I want to bring reform to New York and represent the middle class, which has long been left behind.
This weekend, please join me in spreading the word. Tell your family, your friends, and your neighbors what's at stake. Together, we'll make a real difference.
